Aiming at new possibilities for the diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease

A NeuroMat-led initiative has aimed at developing a new tool for early diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease. This initiative relies on a game to identify behaviorial patterns associated to this disease in a cost efficient way. Parkinson's Disease is a degenerative disorder of the nervous system and affects 1% of the world population of over 65 years, according to the Association Brazil Parkinson. This work is part of the NeuroMat-led network AMPARO.

New website and resources on the NeuroMat initiative on brachial-plexus injury

The NeuroMat Action on the Brachial-Plexus Injury --ABRAÇO-- has released a video that introduces the goals and resources of this initiative led by Claudia Domingues Vargas and team. ABRAÇO is a an education and science hub on topics pertaining to the brachial-plexus injury.

Researcher Maria Helena Morgani de Almeida gave a talk on caring for Parkinson's Disease patients at the AMPARO monthly seminars, on September 25. NeuroMat investigator Ariadne A. Costa presented on “Self-organized criticality in the brain” at the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, at Indiana University, last month. NeuroMat has released information to apply for the 2018 edition of the Latin American School on Computational Neuroscience,that will take place at the University of São Paulo.

On NeuroMat

NeuroMat is a research center established in 2013 at the University of São Paulo that is dedicated to integrating mathematical modeling and theoretical neuroscience. Among the core missions of NeuroMat are the creation of a new mathematical system to understanding neural data and the development of neuroscientific open-source computational tools. The research center is headed by Prof. Antonio Galves, from USP's Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, and is funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
