in memoriam to Christophe Pouzat

The RIDC NeuroMat community deeply mourns the passing of Christophe Pouzat, Distinguished Associate Investigator of our Center and affiliated to the Institut de Recherche Mathématique Avancée (IRMA).
Throughout more than a decade of collaboration with NeuroMat, Christophe made outstanding contributions to the Center’s scientific life, educational activities, and international collaborations. He first became involved with NeuroMat through courses and training activities on spike sorting and scientific dissemination, generously sharing his expertise with students, researchers, and the broader community. His intellectual curiosity and commitment to dialogue across disciplines quickly made him a central figure within the Center’s activities.
Over the years, Christophe became deeply engaged with LASCON and with research dedicated to the generalization and operationalization of the Galves-Löcherbach model. He was an active and stimulating presence in research groups, workshops, and scientific missions, constantly encouraging the approximation between theoretical studies of neural networks and experimental neuroscience. His work helped strengthen NeuroMat’s commitment to mathematically rigorous yet experimentally grounded approaches to neurobiology.
Christophe will also be remembered for his rare combination of scientific rigor, intellectual generosity, sensitivity, and openness to collaboration. He cultivated meaningful relationships across the Center, inspiring colleagues, students, and collaborators through both his ideas and his humanity. His presence profoundly marked NeuroMat’s community, and his absence will be deeply felt.
The RIDC NeuroMat extends its heartfelt condolences to Christophe’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by him. We share in their grief and honor the memory of an exceptional scientist and human being.
Christophe Pouzat’s contributions and legacy will be honored in a forthcoming session at the RIDC NeuroMat.
