Random Graphs in the Brain II

The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (NeuroMat) will hold the workshop “Random Graphs in the Brain II” in São Paulo, in November 18 and December 9, 2024. NeuroMat is hosted by the University of São Paulo and funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). The event's official website is: neuromat.numec.prp.usp.br/rgbrain2.

This two-day daylong workshop is aimed to be an interdisciplinary workshop for scientists and students in experimental neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, functional imaging, probability, statistics and computer science. Florencia Leonardi (IME/USP), Aline Duarte (IME/USP) and Claudia Vargas (IBCCF/UFRJ) chair the scientific committee of this NeuroMat event.

“Random Graphs in the Brain II” builds upon a workshop with the same title held in 2015. Mathematical challenges at that time included devising models that could give a realistic sense of how neurons interact, taking into consideration the neuronal and functional dimensions of the brain, the hierarchical properties of brain connectivity and system’s criticality. This workshop in 2015 paved the way for the research program conducted within NeuroMat. Nine years later, the NeuroMat team proposes to revisit these core topics in the form of two workshops that will be held on November 18 and December 09, 2024. To consolidate and expand NeuroMat's foundations set in the first workshop, we intend to discuss novel approaches to model cognitive learning and community detection within neuronal networks.

Activities on November 18 will include presentations by Peter F. Stadler, André Fujita, Ítalo Pinto, Andressa Cerqueira, and Kanika Bansal, followed by a general discussion session led by Claudia Vargas and Florencia Leonardi. On December 9, Eva Loecherbach, Guilherme Ost, Aline Duarte, Morgan André and Daniel Takahashi will be the speakers, and a final discussion will be informed by Florencia Leonardi and Aline Duarte.

The workshop will not receive external submissions, yet some external attendees may be accepted. If you are interested in attending, please send an email to neuromat@numec.prp.usp.br. Your request will be replied to on a timely manner.

Live streaming will be provided, and the resulting videos will be posted at the NeuroMat YouTube channel.
