NES: a free software to manage data from neuroscience experiments

Neuroscientists perform complex experiments aiming to reach a more effective understanding on the functioning of the brain and the treatment of pathologies. Each research laboratory uses different techniques and methodologies to produce and to analyze its findings. In this scenario, the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (NeuroMat) has developed the Neuroscience Experiments System (NES), a free software to manage data from neuroscience experiments. This web-based system is meant to assist researchers in their data collecting routine throughout a neuroscience experiment, integrating data records from different types such as clinical, electrophysiological, and behavioral. Furthermore, it provides a unified repository (database) for the experimental data of an entire research laboratory, group, or project.

NeuroMat Facebook Highlights

A delegation of professors and researchers from Chinese universities visited NeuroMat in August in the context of establishing partnerships and joint projects. NeuroMat's AMPARO Network has continued its monthly sessions. The last session focused on balance and fall prevention. The article "Information transmission and criticality in the contact process," that had already been highlighted on its draft version, has now been published on the Journal of Statistical Physics.

On NeuroMat

NeuroMat is a research center established in 2013 at the University of São Paulo that is dedicated to integrating mathematical modeling and theoretical neuroscience. Among the core missions of NeuroMat are the creation of a new mathematical system to understanding neural data and the development of neuroscientific open-source computational tools. The research center is headed by Prof. Antonio Galves, from USP's Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, and is funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
