A model for neural activity in the absence of external stimuli

Aline Duarte, Guilherme Ost

We study a stochastic process describing the continuous time evolution of the membrane potentials of finite system of neurons in the absence of external stimuli. The values of the membrane potentials evolve under the effect of chemical synapses, electrical synapses and a leak current.

Prof. Sidarta Ribeiro spreads neuroscience

NeuroMat member Prof. Sidarta Ribeiro took part on November, 13, of a diffusion activity on neuroscience in a school in Cotia, São Paulo State. Report and image by William Melo, Revista Circuito, 11/14/2014.

NeuroMat offers training on spike sorting

The cooperation between neuroscience and mathematics has much to offer to the collection of neural data. The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (CEPID NeuroMat), from the University of São Paulo, offers a training on the mathematical challenges of this area, specifically on advances developed on techniques of spike sorting.Report by Revista Mente e Cérebro, 11/2014.

The onset of data-driven mental archeology

Sidarta Ribeiro

How did human consciousness arise, in comparison with that of apes? This question has motivated many hypotheses, from psychoanalysis (Freud, 1939) and literature (Bloom, 1999) to evolutionary psychology (Dennett, 1997; Tomasello, 2014). One of the most provocative is that of Julian Jaynes (1976), who understood the question as pertaining to the cultural evolution of introspection during the first millennium BC, known as Axial Age (Jaspers, 1953).

NeuroMat develops an open-source software for the management of neuroscience experimental data

The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (CEPID NeuroMat) software development team released in October the first module of Neuroscience Experiments System (NES), an open-source tool to manage clinical data gathered in hospitals and research institutions.
