Opening for Architecture and Software Development Scholarship

The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center on Neuromathematics (NeuroMat) is offering a scholarship for information technology professionals interested in being part of a breakthrough and innovative scientific project.

NeuroMat is a world class scientific center hosted by the University of São Paulo and funded by FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation). The goal of the center is to develop a mathematical and computational framework leading to the theoretical understanding of neural systems, fully integrated with experimental research at the frontier of neuroscience. New models, theories, and open source softwares will be developed to handle the huge quantity of data produced by experimental research and to provide a conceptual framework for the multiscale aspects of neural phenomena. For more information see neuromat.numec.prp.usp.br.

The recipient will interact with researchers from USP and other NeuroMat collaborating institutions in activities of development, customization, maintenance and deployment of open software related to the scientific goals of the center. The software developed in NeuroMat will be both used internally by members of the project as a means to carry on the project- related research as well as released as Open Source Software.

Planned activities include: agile software development; database modeling, implementation and management; development of open source computational systems and tools to acquire, store and analyze data from neuroscience experiments.

The recipient will also be trained by the USP FLOSS Competence Center (ccsl.ime.usp.br) in advanced techniques for the development and dissemination of open source software and digital media.

Scholarship: BRL 6.819,30 (40 hours of work per week). It’s a FAPESP Technical Expertise Scholarship of level 5. For more information on the scholarship, see www.fapesp.br/174#4463.

Requirements: applicants must have a Ph.D. degree OR at least five years of proven experience in Information Technology after graduation.

The scholarship will be awarded to a candidate capable of carrying out the following activities:

  • Software architecture and development
  • Software testing, packaging, and distribution

Candidates with one or more of the following skills will be preferred: databases (preferable PostgreSQL or MySQL/MariaDB), object-oriented programming and Web programming (Python/Django, Ruby/Rails, JavaScript, Java or others), persistence frameworks (for example, ActiveRecord and Hibernate), agile software development, and software testing.

Duration: twelve months, renewable for a further term of twelve months.

Place of work: Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center on Neuromathematics (NeuroMat) - University of São Paulo (USP) - São Paulo / Brazil.

To apply for the position, please send your CV to vagas-ti@numec.prp.usp.br until May 31th 2016.
