The combining of these two axes is at the core of the inception and development of FAPESP’s Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (RIDC NeuroMat). “Without biology, mathematicians can at most generate nice models, that could have internal coherence, but remain absolutely useless to provide a conceptual framework for neuroscience. Without mathematics, neuroscientists are unable to move to a higher level of abstraction and could fall into the trap of driving all their scientific power to gather minute details that have little to inform to a systemic understanding of neural nets,” said NeuroMat’s coordinator, Antonio Galves.

On May 15, the member of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (NeuroMat) André Frazão Helene and colleagues published "On Sequence Learning Models: Open-loop Control Not Strictly Guided by Hick’s Law", on Scientific Reports, a journal of Nature's group. "The meaning is that the nervous system, relying on past experiences, generates predictions on what will happen in the future," the researcher explained. A mesa-redonda "Desafios da Difusão Científica: uma homenagem a Ernesto Hamburger” vai discutir as perspectivas da comunicação, exposição e educação científica no Brasil, no próximo dia 9 de junho, a partir das 18h, no Instituto de Física da Universidade de São Paulo. A organização do evento é da equipe de Difusão Científica do Centro de Pesquisa, Inovação e Difusão em Neuromatemática (NeuroMat). Durante a mesa-redonda será feita uma homenagem ao professor Ernesto Hamburger, físico nascido na Alemanha que vem contribuindo há mais de 50 anos com a produção do conhecimento, a educação e a divulgação da ciência no Brasil; Hamburger foi o idealizador e primeiro coordenador de difusão do NeuroMat.
