"The Arms of Nildo and Rony:" a NeuroMat story

A professional motorcyclist and a surgeon meet up at the waiting room of a physiotherapy clinic. They share a common story: rehabilitation after a traumatic brachial plexus injury. Their fate is somehow similar to the one of a famous soccer player who, after a serious lesion, must attend therapy sections to learn again how to play, after a period of recovery. These stories are the guiding narratives of a newly released educational material for patients, caregivers and health professionals, the illustrated magazine "The Arms of Nildo and Rony."

Ten research directions for the NeuroMat team in the coming years

As the NeuroMat research team worked on the project renewal proposal, ten research teams were listed. These teams have specific research topics, that will in the coming years provide the direction of the RIDC agenda. These teams were normally already active prior to 2018.

Ernst W. Hamburger's optimism: a NeuroMat video

The NeuroMat scientific dissemination has recently launched a short movie on physicist and science popularizer Ernst W. Hamburger, a NeuroMat PI. The video --which was produced by LAICA and supported by FAPESP-- is a development of an event on Hamburger's contributions that was organized at the University of São Paulo in 2016.

Nesting a culture for computational neuroscience

The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (RIDC NeuroMat) held in January and early February the seventh edition of the Latin American School on Computational Neuroscience. LASCON is a biennial school aiming at introducing advanced undergraduate, graduate students and young researchers, mostly from Latin America, to the use of mathematical and computational methods for modeling neurons and neural networks of the brain. Antonio Carlos Roque da Silva Filho, a NeuroMat co-principal investigator, is at the head of LASCON.

Representing Neuromathematics: complex images for science dissemination

The NeuroMat dissemination team has led an experimental project to produce graphic video representations of papers from the NeuroMat research team. The goal is to experiment a new language for scientific dissemination that both provides an understanding of the research process and contributes to the development of a new line of research on how to represent science. A recent output has been the publication of a video on the article "Reduced functional connectivity within the primary motor cortex of patients with brachial plexus injury," from 2016.
